Hexatronic Group company Fibron Cable has won the Environmental Sustainability & Social Impact Award at the Energy Industries Council (EIC) World Energy Supply Chain Awards 2026 in London. The award recognizes practical steps the UK company has taken to cut its emissions, from solar power and electric vehicles to waste recycling.
Founded in 1986, Fibron Cable supplies bespoke umbilicals, cables, and terminations for complex projects around the world. Recognition from the EIC carries extra weight, as it comes from the energy industry Fibron Cable serves.
What earned the award
The EIC recognized a range of measures Fibron Cable has introduced toward its net zero emissions target: waste recycling, solar panels on the factory roof, and a switch to electric cars and electric forklifts. The company is also certified to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management.
The changes were a team effort, coordinated by Fibron Cable's QHSE team, including Andrew Cox, Stephen Gladman, Aurelia Thompson, Amy Sheeran, and their colleagues.
This award recognises the commitment and hard work that goes into making our workplace more sustainable, environmentally responsible and focused on creating a positive impact. From the installation of solar panels across our factory roof to the introduction of electric forklift trucks, we are taking meaningful steps towards reducing our environmental footprint and building a more sustainable future on our way to net zero.
The forklifts were next on the list
When Fibron Cable installed 1,428 solar panels on its factory roof in 2025, the system was forecast to cover 33% of the company's electricity needs. During the winter months, Fibron Cable combines solar power with purchased 100% renewable energy.
At the time, the company named its next step: replacing propane-powered forklifts with electric ones. That switch is now complete and formed part of the work the EIC recognized. Read more in our 2025 article about the solar project.
The work continues. Fibron Cable sees it as an ongoing project toward net zero, with more initiatives planned for the year ahead. Each step brings Hexatronic Group closer to its commitment to be climate neutral in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030.
