Hexatronic Group company Fibron Cable has taken a significant step toward climate neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 by installing 1,428 solar panels on the roof of its UK factory. This impressive 714 kWp system is forecasted to generate 617,610 kWh annually, accounting for 33% of Fibron Cable's electricity needs.
The project was driven by several factors: global energy instability, Hexatronic Group's commitment to be climate neutral in our own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030, and the potential for significant cost savings. “It started a year-long search to assess many different suppliers,” says Andrew Finch, CFO of Fibron Cable. “Negotiating the license to alter our lease was the biggest challenge, but we got there.”
The 1,428 solar panels are expected to generate enough energy during the summer months to cover all Fibron Cable's electricity needs at daylight, and then some. Any excess capacity will be exported to the national grid for use by others.
The environmental impact is substantial: 118,093 kg of carbon emissions saved in the first year, and up to 1,159,900 kg over the lease period.

During the winter months, Fibron Cable will combine the energy from the solar panels with the purchase of 100% renewable energy. This brings the company closer to achieving climate neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Financially, the system will also save £ 100,000 per year, with a payback period of just 3.5 years. Employees have responded with support, and new ideas are already underway. Next on the roadmap? Electric forklifts to replace propane-powered ones early next year.
With the solar panel project, Fibron Cable is demonstrating that sustainability and business performance can go hand in hand. Visit Fibron Cable to learn more about the company!
