Product Designer/Design Engineer/CAD Technician – Hexatronic UK
Hexatronic UK is recruiting for a product designer to join our innovative and industry-leading team in Gosport, UK. Join us to help design and develop the next generation of FTTX network connectivity components.
This position is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and responsive team of designers and engineers with a reputation for innovation within the telecoms sector. This role would be ideally suited to someone with previous experience in a product design or engineering development role who could hit the ground running, however someone with CAD experience and a passion for design looking to transition into a more product-focused role would be considered.

Job description
- Working with Design, Engineering, and Product management teams from across the global group to produce detailed 3D part models and assemblies.
- Creation of detailed technical drawings to industry standards.
- Assisting product managers by producing photo-realistic renders, and technical documentation such as bill of materials.
- Responding to engineering change requests and quality.
- Ensure all design documentation and associated data are maintained correctly with the company PDM system, maintaining compliance to the companies revision control processes.
- Assisting in the prototyping assembly and evaluation of new products to ensure they meet project briefs.
- Manufacture 3D prints, and use of on-site mechanical testing facilities to validate design performance.
- Attending regular NPI project meeting and design reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
- Correctly adding parts to the company MRP system.
- Defining correct manufacturing methods and material choice for specific applications, and designing with these factors in mind.
- Communication with external suppliers to seek RFQ’s and respond to DFM/DFA feedback.
Your profile
- Qualified in a relevant engineering/Product design discipline, or equivalent experience within a design / engineering / or manufacturing environment.
- Minimum three years experience working with 3D CAD Software (Solidworks preferred).
- Knowledge of other design software packages would be advantageous.
- Experience of consumer electronics / closures would be an advantage but not essential.
- Well organized, with a structured and methodical approach to work, able to work independently and coordinate your workload effectively to meet project demands.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly.
- A firm understanding of various manufacturing processes such as:
- Injection molding
- Sheet metal folding/stamping
- CNC Machining
- Additive manufacturing
- Previous use of product data management systems such as PDM would be an advantage.
- Competence in MS Office.
- Organisational skills with a commitment to the role and a keen eye for detail.
- An understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures within an engineering technical discipline. GD&T, DFMEA, FEA, DFM/DFA.
- Appreciation of drawing standards and CAD software.
- Ability to produce accurate 3D models and drawings based on project briefs.
- Observation and understanding of basic engineering practices and procedures.
- A capacity to adhere to advice from more senior design engineers.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for events, training, etc. if requested to do so.
